Labour Party conference photography 2025

I don’t tend to cover the political party conferences anymore – there’s no sales in press images these days, sadly. Used to love covering politics, as here. But I popped into Liverpool’s ACC Conference Centre for the Labour Party conference photography 2025 and Keir Starmer’s main address as I’d been on a job in the area.

Wes Streeting performs all the hits for the old-school party delegates in his address.

Everything is, and always has been, very carefully coordinated in the advance of the leader’s big speech. Here’s the faithful being lined up to create a picture for the Starmers’ arrival. And here they are…no one ever looks comfortable doing this! Actually, I recall Johnson did, but he was patently a massive narcissist.

No time to rest for poor Victoria Starmer…into the ‘frow’ before he starts and everyone needs to get a frame. I always feel for the spouses in the glare.

And he’s off. The sets are, of course, carefully cultivated to hammer messages home.

Labour still pull a much bigger grassroots crowd than the Conservatives, though both conferences are a shadow of how busy they used to be.

Time to capture a range of emotions. In the past I’d have been looking to supply a range of media, each with their own agenda, and so you’re expected to show the subject in a range of lights and styles.

It’s a long session for photographers to be crouched on knees…especially us older ones…and on-top of each vying for the best vantage points. Note also the Special Branch officer on left as security was extra tight following last years ‘glitter bomb’, as pictured brilliantly here by Joel Goodman.

Formulaic as ever, we conclude with the leader and their spouse posing before departing – I gambled that they’d come to stage edge but they stayed to stage rear and I missed best angle.

And we conclude with the immediate and frantic spinning of the speech to the media. David Lammy appears as combative as ever and we end where we began with Wes Streeting, who I’d wager will lead the party next.
